The number of people embracing the natural hair look of late is increasing day by day leaving the treated hair days behind them. As one embraces natural hair; he/she should put it mind that a lot of care, effort and time should be put into accomplishing nice and attractive natural hair.
The structure of the hair is like scales on the skin of the fish that has overlapping scales around a central core called the cortical. Therefore overlapping makes the hair look smooth and shiny as well as easy to comb out detangled strands of hair. In order to maintain your natural hair, a few things should be followed;
- Maintain a proper diet and have a good immune body system free from illnesses as these two factors are important and greatly affect the quality of hair and either is low or poor; it can lead to dandruff, thinning of hair and premature grey hair.
- Constantly oil your hair because oil treatments work as great hair conditioners making the hair soft, shiny and healthy. It also prevents split ends which are commonly caused by dryness of the hair and scalp. The oils recommended to achieve all this are castor oil, lanolin oil, coconut oil, rosemary oil, olive oil and almond oil. All these help to condition the hair and encourage hair growth.
Protective hairstyles are also good for Natural Hair since it involves using styles that protect the hair and hide the ends from damage so that one can retain more length. These styles include faux locs, Bantu Knots, Weaves, Crochet Braids, Cornrows, and Box Braids among others. However, a person should use proper hair care practices along with using protective hairstyles in order for the hair to grow to its maximum potential. An example of a poor hair practice may be keeping braids in for too long and forgetting to wash and moisturize them regularly.
Once all the above is achieved, there will be no more breakage of hair, maximum hair growth and achievement of the perfect natural hair look.
